The ModPod AI Nail Scanner uses artificial intelligence to analyse a photo of your toenail and identify potential conditions such as fungal infections, ingrown toenails, trauma, and signs that may need urgent medical attention. Simply upload or take a clear photo of your nail, and the AI will provide a preliminary assessment within seconds. The scanner was developed in partnership with ModPod Podiatry's clinical team, who have over 20 years of experience treating nail conditions across Sydney.
Yes, the ModPod AI Nail Scanner is completely free to use. There is no account required and no limit on the number of scans you can perform. It's designed as a helpful first step to understand what might be affecting your nails before booking an appointment with a podiatrist.
The AI nail scanner provides a preliminary assessment based on visual patterns and is continuously improved using feedback from ModPod's qualified podiatrists. While it is highly effective at identifying common conditions like fungal nails, ingrown toenails, and trauma, it is not a substitute for a professional diagnosis. We recommend booking an in-person consultation with a podiatrist for a confirmed diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your privacy is important to us. When you use the scanner, you can choose whether to allow your image to be stored for AI training purposes. If you untick the consent checkbox, your image is deleted immediately after analysis. No photos are shared with third parties. Stored images are used solely to improve the accuracy of the scanner under clinical supervision.
The ModPod AI Nail Scanner can identify a range of common toenail conditions including fungal nail infections (onychomycosis), ingrown toenails, nail trauma and bruising (subungual haematoma), thickened nails, nail discolouration, and signs that may require urgent attention such as possible melanoma. The scanner also provides severity ratings and links to relevant treatment information.
Yes. The AI Nail Scanner is designed for mobile use. You can take a photo directly using your phone's camera or upload an existing photo from your gallery. For the best results, ensure the nail is well-lit, in focus, and fills most of the frame. The scanner works on both iPhone and Android devices with no app download required.
The AI analysis typically takes 3–5 seconds from the moment you upload your photo. Results appear on screen immediately, including a condition assessment, severity rating, care recommendations, and links to relevant ModPod treatment pages.
No. The AI Nail Scanner is a screening tool designed to give you a helpful preliminary assessment. It can indicate whether your nail condition may need professional attention, but it cannot replace an in-person examination, diagnostic testing, or a personalised treatment plan from a qualified podiatrist. If the scanner identifies a potential issue, we recommend booking an appointment at your nearest ModPod Podiatry clinic.
The scanner is optimised for toenails, as these are the most common nails affected by fungal infections, trauma, and ingrown nails. However, many of the same conditions can affect fingernails, and the AI may still provide useful insight. For the most accurate results, we recommend using it for toenails.
If the AI scanner flags a potential melanoma or urgent concern, please take it seriously and book an appointment with your GP or podiatrist as soon as possible. Subungual melanoma (melanoma under the nail) is rare but treatable when caught early. Signs include a dark streak running lengthwise along the nail, especially if it changes over time. ModPod Podiatry can perform an initial assessment and refer you to a specialist if needed.
Yes. The scanner can be used on toenails of any age. Children commonly experience nail trauma from sport and play, and occasionally develop fungal infections or ingrown nails. If the scanner identifies a concern, book a paediatric podiatry appointment at any of ModPod's five Sydney clinics.
The AI is trained on a combination of clinical imagery and real-world patient data, with every scan reviewed by ModPod's experienced podiatrists. Clinician feedback is used to continuously refine and improve the AI's accuracy. This means the scanner gets smarter over time as more scans are reviewed and corrected by qualified professionals.
No. The ModPod AI Nail Scanner requires no account, no login, and no personal information. Simply upload a photo and receive your result. The only optional step is a consent checkbox to allow your image to be used for improving the AI.
